We know setting New Year’s Resolutions isn’t the solution to making lasting changes. To make 2008 the best year of your life, it is fun and much easier to focus on your passions and strengths. Awaken your hardwired strengths and passions with these 6 easy steps to make your dreams a reality.
How do you put the 6 easy steps into practice?
What works is to focus on what you love, how you want to feel and how you want to be this year. So it isn’t too late. You can create intentions and “next steps” (for some of you those are “goals”) based on your positive emotions, your passions and the experiences you want in your life. Once you do that everything is easier. Play with the idea of creating what you want to experience by writing and making a vision board. Look at your board daily visualize yourself with the wonderful feelings of having your dreams and passions right now. When you take those steps you will be on the on path to feel: less overwhelmed, more focused, productive, successful, present, and happier every day.

My Experience in Using the 6 Easy and Fun Steps in 2007
Last year I was passionate about finding a home my husband and I could feel comfortable and peaceful in despite outside circumstances. We left our home of 15 years in the Orlando area, where I have lived my whole adult life, and moved to the west coast of Florida two hours away. We left a strong and supportive network of friends and business connections. We knew that, in our new location, we would want to create the serenity we had in our previous home, grow our businesses and create relationships like those that had been so important to us.
As a first step, my husband and I created vision boards (“DreamScapes”as my friend and author, Janet Conner calls them) with words and pictures for 2007. One of my strengths is spirituality, which is why I love the process of using a vision board/”DreamScape” and the mind map process to begin the year. As I engage in these activities with prayerful guidance and closing blessings, and daily viewing of my board I feel connected to my Source.
If I had named my year last year, as my friend and author of the Writing Down Your Soul coming later this year, Janet Conner, suggests in her powerful article Forget Resolutions, Name that Year , 2007 would have been the year of “finding and creating a peaceful home physically and emotionally.” (Visit Janet at http://www.spiritualgeography.com
As my 2007 vision board evolved, one third of my board was covered with pictures of the home we wanted to buy surrounded by the words “peace” and “serenity”, pictures of our “new” friends, and a picture of my husband and I smiling and being happy together. I found a beautiful picture of a two-story house with columns inside. I did not have the intention of buying a two-story or of having columns in my home. Columns are for big mansions. I just loved the feeling of the picture.
My husband and I also created a special mind map with more specific details about the new home we wanted to purchase in the next few months. (It turned out to be 6 months.) We spent many an evening reading our mind map out loud for the house and visualizing ourselves in our new home, feeling peaceful and happy with a wooded backyard, wonderful neighbors and new friends.
It happened! I am still amazed that everything from our vision board to what we wrote on the mind map we now have in our beautiful, serene home, including a door for the toilet in our master bathroom, a beautiful backyard on a conservation area, wonderful neighbors and a house that is peaceful and feels like home! Oh you probably guessed it. Yes, it is a two-story with columns!
The funniest part of the house story is that my close friend in New York found the house on the internet when she was considering moving to Florida. So when she came to visit, although she was no longer planning to move to Florida, and the house was in our “preferred buying zone” so, of course, we had to go see it. That is the home we purchased. Of course, that is how it works when you put it down on paper. Everything moves to make it happen.
Our businesses have taken on new dimensions. We have made wonderful business connections, and have even made enough friends to have a holiday party. Although 2007 was not the easiest year, it was a powerful year and our intentions became reality. We have been very blessed and I have tremendous gratitude for all the gifts of 2007. I am more peaceful despite the chaos of the outside world or circumstances of my own making. So, if last year was amazing without being named out loud (see step 2), I can not wait to see what happens this year as I have named 2008 and am creating my “DreamScape” vision board.
We didn’t just write intentions and cut out pictures; we wrote, remembered our passions, visualized, prayed, listened for inspired steps, looked for signs, used our strengths, released fears, didn’t settle and celebrated along the way.
I can only image what this year will bring now that we have named 2008! So Thank you Janet!
